Make French Toast in the Waffle Maker!

Step 1:  Put the French toast on the waffle iron.

Step 2:  Put the lid on and cook until done.  My green light glows when the waffle iron thinks it is done.

This is so simple and crazy.  I like French toast, but flipping it can be time consuming while getting kids to school, getting milk poured, etc.  Unless you cook both sides at the same time in the waffle maker!!!  Yes, you dirty up an appliance, but you would have to clean the skillet anyway.  I do suggest highly to spray the waffle maker like crazy with cooking spray.  Normal waffles have some fat in them that makes them not as prone to sticking to the waffle iron.  However, French toast doesn’t contain as much fat and I found it stuck a few times.  The cooking spray fixes it.  No worries!

Here, I used Trader Joe’s cinnamon raisin bread and the Pumpkin French Toast recipe.    I love cinnamon raisin bread used in French toast.  Using a thicker slice will make the French toast easier as well.

Here is a recap of some recipes I have posted:

Pumpkin French Toast
yield 4 servings

8 thick slices of bread like rustic white, brioche, whole wheat, etc.
1 cup pumpkin
3 eggs
1 and 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg

1.  Preheat a large skillet or griddle to medium heat.  Melt some butter in it to cook the french toast in.
2.  In a large shallow dish (like 9×13), mix the pumpkin, eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.
3.  Dip your bread into the dish mixture about 30 seconds each side.  Put into the skillet and cook until golden brown – about 2-3 minutes on each side.  Keep warm in a warm oven or under a dish towel.

Skinny French Toast
4 servings

8 slices of whole grain/whole wheat sandwich bread like Healthy Life
3 eggs
1 cup of skim milk (I fill my pie pan until it is 1/4″ deep)
2 dashes of cinnamon (about 3/4 tsp.)
1 tsp. vanilla

Make French toast following directions above.

Denny’s French Toast
from Todd Wilbur’s “Top Secret Recipes 2″
yield 6 pieces of french toast

4 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
6 slices of Texas Toast (or thick white bread)
2-3 Tbs. butter

1.  Mix eggs, milk, flour, sugar, vanilla, salt and cinnamon in large, flat bottom bowl.
2.  Turn a skillet on medium-low or electric skillet to 325 degrees.  Drop in 1 Tbs.  butter or use the stick to cover the bottom with butter.  When I had my skillet on less than 325, it took a lot longer to cook the bread.
3.  Lay 1 slice of bread into the batter and allow to soak for about half a minute.  Allow the batter to drip off and place into the skillet.
4.  Let each side cook about 2 minutes.  Each side should look toasty/golden brown.   Additional butter may be added to the pan if you need it.
5.  Sprinkle with powdered sugar using a sieve or flour/sugar shaker.  Add any toppings you would like!  Nuts, berries, syrup, etc.

  1. Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this website.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s tough to get that “perfect balance” between
usability and visual appeal. I must say you have done a very
good job with this. Also, the blog loads super fast for me on Chrome.
    Excellent Blog!
